This is a viable and indeed very nice navigation solution. Update: After a few weeks of driving with this system on familiar and unfamiliar roads alike, I am very happy with the performance, accuracy and usability. The iPhone 4′s GPS/Compass and Accelerometer give a very good read on your location. TomTom used to suffer from inferior maps, but I think their data is much improved now. Here is the car mount I use. It acts as a handsfree phone, charger and audio interface to your car stereo all in one. My car has a line in audio input to the stereo system.
